Granny's gone and done it again

I have a broody hen. Should I get her a couple of day-old chicks? Can she brood them safely even in cold weather? What do y'all think?
They CAN brood them but only if she is a proven mom would I do that.

How long as she been broody? It's a 21 day cycle that keeps them sitting until the eggs hatch. If you try to introduce chicks too soon, she might not be ready and reject.
Ditto on what granny said.

We were thinking of getting just two. Only way to prove her is to let her try, yes?
Spring/ warm weather is just easier. If you can keep a good eye on them and be prepared to raise them yourself then no problem but they will freeze quickly on their own.

Maybe prove her with some hatching eggs.
Ummmm, I think it's too late for that. She's been setting nearly three weeks already. She's young - about 7 months - and I kept thinking she would quit. If I order HE, I have to wait for them to arrive, then wait another 3 weeks for some of them to hatch. It would not be good for her to stay on the nest that long, if she even would. I can get her a couple of chicks tomorrow and put them under her tomorrow night. If she doesn't accept them, we can brood them in the house.
