Those dang engine lights. My dad has a little gizmo reader you can plug into the car... I forget what it's called, but it accesses the engine computer and reads out the codes. You look up the codes in the book and find out what's wrong with the car.

#1's car passed smog this morning! He borrowed grandpa's reader gizmo and found out why his check engine light was on, did a little research, and found that it could have been as simple as needing a new gas cap. The seal on his was gnarly and cracked, so he got a new one and voila, the engine light went off!! Passed smog the next day. Makes me feel good that we traveled so far and took a big chance on that old car, but it's proving to be a great deal. I was expecting several hundred dollars worth of work.
Only thing needs doing now it to get the brake rotors resurfaced, or replaced, depending on the price.

Good to know, Wishing! I'm gonna hunt me one of those engine readers. I bought an '04 Jeep Liberty and the engine light is on. Hopefully it will be an easy fix like that. But, er, I also think I may have a busted leaf spring.

Hi, Wish! I cleaned my coop today! This is a big deal bc I was actually able to - it has been such a long time I have not been in absolutely crippling shoulder pain! And why, you ask, is my shoulder better? Bc I got a little tube of CBD lotion and I am amazed at how much it helps. And Granny, before you ask, this does not have any of that wacky stuff in it, the THC. I don't know how it works and frankly wasn't expecting it to. I just wish it didn't smell like kerosene, lol!

Just checked with hubs... called OBD2 On Board Diagnostic 2. Good as far back as 1995. Not sure if it works on brand new cars.

ummm those parts places. (drawing a blank) They will put your windshield wipers on for you, they have that machine and will also put it on your car for you. Its normally free.

Going down on the brake pedal cause the car to shake?

Exactly! We were coming down out of a pass and hoo boy, it was shaking. Scared the you know what out of me, but #1 said the brakes were still working, so we kept going. Stopped for lunch and I was too worried so I picked a tire and brake shop off my phone, good reviews and everyone mentioned the owner by name, so chose him. It was a good pick. He explained what it was and said we'd make it home just fine. Big relief! Then he and #1 proceeded to talk hot rods for the next hour! Brake guy had a very pretty 71 AMC Javelin in the back of the shop. Talk about obscure!
