Granny's gone and done it again

Was watching paula deen today. She said if the greens are bitter add some sugar. I have never had bitter black eyed peas.
IDK, they have a dark flavor to me. Maybe it was the cook? I dont mind my greens being bitter. Turnips are more bitter then collards I like mustard greens
 
In salt? You mean in salt water? I have never done that, please explain.
yes your supposed to wash them in salt because tiny (are you sure you wanna hear this?) bugs gather on the leaves and the salt kills them . then wash them 2 more times to get rid of the sand/dirt, dead things... Just stop your sink up and add about 1/4th C. of salt and cool water .

Are we talking about black-eyed peas? Or turnip greens?
