Granny's gone and done it again

I might give her a bowl of melted vanilla ice cream in a bit, Did give her a couple Rolaids and the water dish is right next to her.
I remember my dad giving the mares a bucket of hot bran mash after foaling. They gobbled it up!
 
do they eat the afterbirth like dogs do?
Yes. Leftover from wild horses eating it... supposedly part of that is to not draw predators toward the herd.

Foaling stall had deep pine shavings that would stick to the afterbirth. Not great for them to eat. They liked that mash instead. I can still hear them, the lip smacking sound when they ate it.
