My mom used to pick them up by the scruff of their neck and if they relaxed they were males and the females would hold their feet up. I think all these methods are iffy. I guess we have a 50% chance of being right!

Bipolar, actually. Lol, I also exaggerate for effect. Here in Granny's thread, I let my hair down and goof a little, so take a lot of what I say with a grain or two of salt. Or maybe a 50-lb block of salt!

But I thought it only worked for some breeds, like leghorns. But since my chicks are all mixes, I would have to wait until they are older…

How is your foot, Twist?

well I can wear a shoe on it with out screaming in pain or popping "horse pills" so better , most of the swelling is gone in the morning and then starts "puffing up during the day"
