Did they separate the calves from the cows? The cows will cry for a while after that, partly from missing their babies and partly because their udders are painful from being full of milk.I don't think I ever heard cattle scream like that before.
I agree with you h2oratt. We hear that mournful cow call every time a calf is weaned or....when lady cow is looking for a boy cow to party hearty with.
I once asked a neighbor if he could give us a heads up when he is contemplating weaning calves so we can be 'away' that weekend.
He just laughed and said that is what he did, pull the calves and left for the weekend.
I don't know, but I do remember seeing lots of calves a few months ago. Some of them still have babies. That's probably it though.Did they separate the calves from the cows? I work on a very small dairy farm and the mother cows will get pretty vocal as the we start to separate the calfs. They don’t get that bad though.I don't think I ever heard cattle scream like that before.
Maybe she is just a little more vocal than usual. My dad thought it was a he at first...I work on a very small dairy farm and the mother cows will get pretty vocal as the we start to separate the calfs. They don’t get that bad though.
When are calves usually weaned?I work on a very small dairy farm and the mother cows will get pretty vocal as the we start to separate the calfs. They don’t get that bad though.
It definitely will. Hawks are nasty. We can't even shoot them where we live![]()
Thank you Twist! She has quieted down. I do believe she is missing her calf, since I think I saw a few babies when I moved here.
