Granny's gone and done it again

Oh thats so sad! I can see why broodies can be worse. My incubator has higher hatch rates than my broody.

I have only hatched with a broody hen once though. I was visiting her chicks one day and I found one that wasn't opening it's eye. The eye was infected and she ended up losing her eye. I still don't know if she got pecked or what. She is now my sweet girl, Puffle.
We had 4 BO hatch out 8 chicks. Two of them co-parented 4 of the chicks. They all did a great job until the hawks discovered them. 🙁 Four survived, one was a rooster we had for several years. We now order chicks from a hatchery and brood them until they are big enough to integrate with the flock, and don't lose them to hawks any more.

I hate hawks. Too bad that they are everywhere.
