Granny's gone and done it again

Hello everyone. I am new. Hatches one emu and hopefully another one very soon join us. I have one egg that hasn’t hatched. Way overdue. Does anyone know if an egg can be saved or dried out without emptying the contents? Not sure if there was any development.

If a fresh chicken egg, you can poke or drill small holes at each end and blow the contents out the larger hole into a bowl. I usually poke a long toothpick in to break up the membranes first. Have to blow pretty hard! Don't know it that would be possible with a larger egg, but maybe you can figure out a way to adapt that method. Not likely possible if any development. Good luck and let us know if you succeed! How did Fabergè do it???

You mean with the dead egg? I just throw it somewhere that won't attract predators near the chickens. Like down in the valley or somewhere like that.

This must be a tough question. Can’t even find an answer on yahoo. If I don’t find out soon I’m going to Chuck the egg. I hear they can smell pretty ronchy
Oh, and welcome to Granny's! (I am not Granny though. She will greet you soon, I am sure!)

If you are trying to find out if it's alive or not, you want to poke a hole into the air sac, and then slowly peel away the shell. Make sure you candle the egg so you know where the air sack is. I doubt the egg is still alive though. It should be pretty obvious if its alive or not. I usually only let eggs sit for an extra 2-3 days before tossing.

If your emu egg breaks in the house, you'll need to sell or burn the house. Okay I'm exaggerating. A bit.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I am learning how to navigate this site. I will definitely be back. Have to go prune in my vineyard. 🙃
We are getting ready to prune it too! February is when we usually prune it. Welcome to Grannyland! (I am ALSO not Granny, but she should be here soon).

I see you are new to BYC too! Welcome! :frow
