Kevin called. He sounded scary sick. He said he is waiting for his parents to come and take him to ER tomorrow. He is too dizzy to drive himself. I offered to take him.
You don’t want to exposure yourself. If Tom got it it wouldn’t be good but you are a good friend.

Egyptian Fayoumis, Blue. I bought 6- 4 years ago when my flock was recovering from Marek's to see if what they said about genetic resistance to the disease was true. So far so good. I hatched 6 more this past spring. I have lost two pullets, one to parasite load and one to suspected botulism this spring but so far no paralysis or Marek's symptoms in any of them.
I didn’t know chickens could get botulism.

How can you tell if a chicken has botulism?

A chicken with typical signs of botulism. The bird is weak and unable to stand, and has droopy wings. The neck is floppy, it cannot hold its head up and its eyes are closed. Usually affected birds are found sitting or lying on the ground, hunched over and unable to stand.

Sounds exactly like Mareks disease.

I find if I let my hens have a natural break, ie no lights, they lay for most of their life.
I Think ? chickens are born with all the eggs they will ever lay and no amount of light will give you more eggs in the long run. I also feel like they should be allowed to take a natural break.

But you never know how long the chicken will live. Who cares if they don't lay when they are 10 years old when they don't make it to that age?
