Granny's gone and done it again

We have 4 dogs, two are 12 years old and two are 8 months old. We have always fed free choice dog food and have never had over weight dogs.
I don't understand the struggle of over weight dogs at all.

Granny, a puppy that was partially starved will eat ravenously until he gets the proper nutrition. We fed our Cur pup an egg morning and evening until he didn't just gulp it down anymore along with free choice Victor brand puppy food. It actually got to the point that he didn't even want the egg at all. His hair is shiny, slick and as thick as hound hair can be. Last week when the temperature went up to the upper 70's to lower 80's he acted like it was too warm and lay on the dirt in the shade, that tells me he has an excellent coat.
We often feed two brands simultaneously, those being Diamond Naturals and Victor.

Edited to add: we feed breed size and age specific varieties.

No, still really bad. I couldnt stand in the torture chamber long enough to make a pot of coffee.
also my microwave just broke. No dinner for me. Cold coffee too

No, Robert took her for a walk for about 1/2 hr, fed her the rice mix and let her play in the house for a while. Now shes back in her crate screaming bloody murder. She also snuck into Roberts room and found the cat food while he was making her dinner. She acts like she is starving Dammit, what did I do now?
Make sure she's quiet when you let her out of the crate if you can. Letting her out when she's crying or screaming just teaches her that screaming is the way to get what she wants.

Troyer, with 4 dogs of different breeds and ages, how do you free feed different brands and not have them eat each other's food?

The two indoor dogs are Chihuahua and the two outdoor dogs are the 8 months of age. There is a slight overlap in eating each others feed, but the male indoor dog doesn't allow the pups to eat their food on the occasion we let them in in adverse weather. The Chihuahuas are satisfied enough that they don't eat any considereable amounts of the large breed pup food.

Thank you! Makes sense.
