Granny's gone and done it again

Wasn't there a frost or something that killed a bunch of the trees? Maybe it was s hurricane, I forget. That's driving the cost up I think.

All those eggs and you don't eat them??? Do you sell them?
FL citrus has been hit with two disease killing thousands of acres. Every time they replant the new trees are dead before making a mature tree often. I've seen some new trees being planted in a tunnel like green house of fabric. I don't know how that is working out but it adds to costs. There really just isn't the supply there used to be. Many years ago citrus buyers for small growers would make the rounds telling the growers that California has a bumper crop this year trying to lower the price they had to pay. My home county at the time had more citrus than all the other citrus growing states combined. You could take a drive and see thousands upon thousands of acres of green trees. Not anymore.

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt. In a second bowl or a large measuring cup, whisk together the sugar, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla.
  • Make a well in the dry ingredients and slowly pour in the wet ingredients, whisking constantly until most of the lumps are gone. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  • Bake until a toothpick inserted comes out clean with a few crumbs attached, about 50 to 60 minutes. Rotate the pan halfway through baking.
  • Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and peel the parchment from the bottom of the cake. Cool completely before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
