I know a lot of people do that but I'm old school and used crushed very fine road gravel. All natural and no hens needed. Actually I use it in tiny pellet form. It's not just calcium but has magnesium that egg shells lack.

Mom showed me to use that to plant my cedars. They always took off like weeds
