the hen should lead him to the food and water. At least that's what I have read beforeOne of my many charms.

Go Sophie! One tough little gal. I have a little cross bred rooster named Elvis because his comb flops over on eye and he thought he was a real 'ladies man' with the girls. About 5 years ago he got in a fight over the ladies and lost an eye. Thought he'd learned a lesson as he left the girls alone until this past spring when he showed up with an injury to his remaining eye. Didn't look too bad so I doctored it and it healed. In the past I just cull any rooster who has catastrophic injuries to both eyes but thought Elvis had a chance to recover. He did well for about a couple of weeks then I noticed him bouncing off the sides of his hospital cage. Yep, old boy was now blind but I didn't have the heart to cull him. Just a pleasant funny boy. Today I got him out to give him a cuddle and some time out of the cage. Miserable existence I told him but alive and blind is better than dead. I worry about him this winter when it is cold. He does well in his small cage. He can find his food and water bowl but put him in a larger pen and he gets lost so putting another bird in with him isn't an option in his current habitat. I have a larger pen in my feed room that I could conceivably put him and an old hen in if the temps get too cold.
Amazing what we will do for birds that touch our hearts as well as our lives.
Chicks are gorgeous. One of their half bred sons is heavier bodied but speckled black and white with multicolored spotted legs. He has the best personality. Not flighty or nervous at all. He looked like a Fayoumi chick when he hatched except for his all black body and chipmunk stripes. Head was Fayoumi chick brown. The other one is brown bodied and white headed, also great personality except he doesn't like the Bantam roosters.Sorry you've had a bad day. I have had that exact problem with my hand before. Sucks.
Don't they have the prettiest chicks ever?? I only had a pair but they bred good. Didn't take long to fill them up.

No. But our bathroom is upstairs. Id like to get one of those toilets that they have in RVs for our shed. The composting ones so I wouldn't need plumbingA real outhouse?
That's great! I love itDH has spent long visits at hospitals. The nurses all know him because he draws on bed pads or anything he can find and gifts the drawings to his Drs. Thought you might like this of you can enlarge it enough to see it. This was for the surgeon who removed his gut
