What if there are natural disasters or civil break down or riots or war? The Mormons have a years supply of food on hand at all times. ALL TIMES for the whole family and enough to share with those in need. He's using his head IMHO. Food can be recycled. I buy bulk from the local Amish store and so do most of the people around us along with our friends. We aren't Mormon. We are just practical.
The Amish have huge stores of food. All canned or on the hoof in the pastures. Big buckets of flour, rice, etc.
Get behind him and help him.
BUT! Only buy things you like. Peanut butter is a good example. Make your own bread. Rice, pasta, spaghetti sauce, etc.
And find a way to cook if the power goes off. Don't be a victim, be a survivor.
