Granny's gone and done it again

@microchick, you are the voice of common sense and reason. We miss you when you're not here, dear lady! đź«‚
Thank you, sweetie, you don't know how much that means to me. :hugs

I wish I didn't have so much personal and for that matter professional experience dealing with such things, but the good Lord must figure I can help others with my knowledge, and who am I to argue with the Big Boss?

I don't understand this. His room is $400. a day! How in the world am I supposed to pay that? What will they do with the ones that cant pay?
Okay, take a deep breath, let it out. Relax. His insurance/Medicare is paying for it at this moment. That is what I was talking about. IF and that word is important, if he becomes a permanent resident they will evaluate him for your state Medicaid/public aid to help with his expenses.

When my dad became a resident, it was somewhere between 3 and 4 thousand a month. So the cost has increased a lot.

Trust me, very few can pay out of pocket for their expenses. The facility I worked at had 165 beds at the time and I think only 1 self pay resident. It's just out of most people's ability to pay.

@BigBlueHen53, did some more back reading and found out about your fur baby. God love em, they sure can give you gray hairs.

We have 3 male Red Heelers. Most of the time they get along well. Ben is the most mellow of the three and alpha, Diesel and Varna like to try Ben's patience trying to move up in the pack. This past summer, they both tried to push their luck with Ben. He really doesn't like to squabble with them. If I am nearby he will jump in my lap to avoid them but I wasn't around so he took matters into his own 'teeth' and first put Varn in his place. 350 dollars to have his ear sewed up where Ben laid a 2 inch laceration inside it. The next month, Diesel tried the same thing and once again, almost 400 dollars that time to have the outside of his ear sewed up with the same type of laceration.

Afterwards I looked at Ben and said. Young man you need to get a job and pay mommy and daddy back 750 dollars you cost us.

Every now and then I ask him if he got that job yet.

As for what kind of breed that dog in the pic is, I'd say maybe Belgian Malinois cross. The conformation says BM to me but the coat is different. Maybe a GSD with a mottled coat? Either way, a tough dog for a long haired Collie to go up against. Hope your baby is healing well.

We tried a 'cone of shame' with Diesel and he ate it. If your baby doesn't tolerate the cone, try taking a piece of pool noodle long enough to go around his neck, pull a shoe lace through the hole and tie that around his neck. That is what we did with Diesel and he couldn't scratch his ear with it on plus he tolerated it and used it like a pillow.

I just told my GC, Do not ever promise to NOT put me in a nursing home. If the time comes that I need care that my loved ones cannot provide for me at home, by all means please feel free to do that! Don't let me be a burden to those at home, let the professionals take care of me. I'm sure I'll be fine having someone wait on me, cook for me, give me my meds as needed, do my laundry ... in short, do for me all the things I've been doing for everybody else all my life. Like @microchick said, no guilt!
I've told my kids the same.

Dementia is an umbrella term for different types of memory loss. Here's a couple of of pictures that explains them.
My Scott was diagnosed with Alzheimers then with two types..adding Vascular because of having mini strokes.
