Granny's gone and done it again

I mean yeah but everything is bad for you technically. Even oxygen and water can kill you if it’s 100% pure yet we need both to live. JS.
Now's the time to start while you are still young! Take it from some old folk, you will thank us when you are in your 60s. Commercial food is poison. The ingredients label reads like a chemistry class test. Your liver has to process everything you eat, including the chemicals. Those chemicals can damage your liver and kidneys, not to mention that they just plain are bad for you.

High sugar can contribute to being overweight which can result in diabetes. Ask the members here who are diabetic how much fun that is.

High fat diets can lead to coronary artery disease, arteriosclerosis atherosclerosis high blood pressure and heart disease.

Folks telling you to do the research are dead serious. I won't even go into what the high sugar, high caffeine pops and soft drinks will do to you.

Look up the incidence of type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol in people under the age of 30 compared with what it was back in say the 70s and see what you find.

Trying to keep you heathy, honey. We want you to live a long and prosperous life.

Yeah I know, and I appreciate it, so thanks! I already know a lot of the stuff though. Just don’t pay attention to it or follow it  I need to start. And I actually already have diabetes so that’s even worse. I don’t act like I have it and basically eat what I want which I shouldn’t do.

Yep soybean and canola oil are no good for you
I found confusing info.

What are the negatives of canola oil?

Canola oil is extremely unstable under heat, light and pressure, which causes oxidation and releases free radicals inside the body. When canola oil is heated (aka. when we cook with it), it produces high levels of butadiene, benzene, acrolein, formaldehyde and other nasty compounds.Jun 8, 2020

On the other hand, however:

Does canola oil raise your cholesterol?

Although care must be taken in handling and processing of canola oil and other vegetable oils, canola oil is a safe and healthy form of fat that will reduce blood LDL cholesterol levels and heart disease risk compared to carbohydrates or saturated fats such as found in beef tallow or butter.Apr 13, 2015

You are going to go blind if you keep going the way you are going....or worse.

Sorry to be blunt, but that came from my husband who is sitting next to me. He is a retired eye doctor.

One of our patients was a young man, strapping, strong, smart, handsome and happily married. His last eye exam showed advancing AMD from diabetes. He admitted that he didn't take his diabetes seriously either. He was told that was obvious.

It's up to you and not too late to start now. Pls? :hugs

Pies are made. I messed up of course. I told Robert he needed the big boxes and he didn't. That stuff was so thick it climbed up the beaters and started around the handle of the mixer.
Big boxes of what, Granny?

I forced myself to eat peas tonight 🤢🤮🤢🤮🤢
This is how I feel about beets. I just can't beets. <shudder>. As for the peas, did you eat canned or frozen? Canned are .... mushy, over salted and have all the flavor cooked out of them. Very much not good. Try frozen and put them in just a little water and just get them hot. They'll taste just like fresh, SOOO much better than canned!

Thanks for the recipe, @h2oratt. I think I'll try that next. This recipe is just so simple it's like, how can you mess it up? Beets, grated, mayo till the beets turn a dark pink, garlic cloves and salt/pepper, etc to taste. He says he makes it for his mother and himself every Christmas.

We won't tell him about the Ukrainian Borst though...kind of a sore subject with him.;) Ukraine, not Borst.
Just say it it is Russian. My DH aunt makes it every year for Christmas dinner.

It's not just oil though. It's pretty much all ultra processed food. The more natural you can eat, fresh veggies fruit and meat, the better and healthier for you.

Read an article recently that said that processed foods are part of the root problem of why there are so many morbidly obese people in the US.

Nah, won't happen. Remember the quote by Japanese Admiral Yamamoto: Never never successfully invade America because there is a rifle behind every blade of grass.
From your mouth to Gods Ears

I could definitely eat healthier though and I did eat roasted vegetables last night and also made a salad last night though I haven’t eaten that yet. But yeah. So I’m starting to a little bit. But still eat unhealthy too. Like the Mtn Dew and trail mix and candy, etc. lol but yeah.
Trail mix can be healthy

They were saying that SS would be unavailable back when I was in my 20s and 30s. Seems like it pops up every now and again and every time it does they say, oh, never mind, we have found a way to fund it....until they figure it's time to strike fear in people's hearts again.

I read back a few pages. Nursing homes. Great post, @Cynthia12. Some of the best I've worked in when I was working for a Temporary Staffing company were the ones that were owned and operated by churches. You can tell they are good because they always have waiting lists for empty beds. They are clean, the nurses and staff considerate and compassionate. The residents are happy and well loved.

One thing to check if you are considering a 'home' for a loved one is to look at your states' health dept inspections and see how many 'tags' a facility has received. 'J' Tags are the worse. It means Imminent Jeopardy and means that something has happened to endanger a resident (s) safety or life. Minor tags are important if there are many of them but not as bad as a J tag.

Health Dept inspections can make or break a nursing home. Last one I went through back in IL they were there for 5 days. Couldn't find anything wrong to 'tag' us. Finally they found a pair of heel protectors laying on a bed instead of on the resident and fined the facility for that...then happily left. We laughed our heads off at that one. As harsh as it sounds, they want to find violations. Fines can be anywhere from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars and is a money maker for the state. We always tried to deprive them of as much money as we could. It showed we were doing a good job.

But the advice to visit the facility at different times, note how the residents are dressed. If they seem happy and well cared for, and....this is a gross one, sorry, but sniff around. Do you smell urine? Feces? Naturally there might be a smell of feces around a bathroom or room if a resident is incontinent but the odor won't last long. BUT, if you smell stale urine or people are setting in wet clothes, run, don't walk to the nearest exit and keep looking.

Like anything else, there are good and bad. Unfortunately, the bad detract from the good.
wow, that's a lot of reading and Im only in the complaints! Most of them are BS complaints though. Patient asking aid to break his poptart up and aid asks Do you want me to baby bird it to ya too? Hurt feelings and complaints followed
