Granny's gone and done it again

I don't smoke or buy alcohol as a beverage either. Spend less than $10 a year on whiskey for making home brew cough medicine that works. Did break down and get Ma some new flannel shirts for chore time and I got a new belt. She patches my jeans and shirts like grandparents would have. We refuse to pay for cable TV too. Medical gets the most of our disposable income after other necessities. l wish I could be reliable for a job but that will never be again now and I know it. I'd like an extra check to spend on more chickens and feed just for pets.
same here Larry. I would love to be able to go back to work and it wont ever happen here either. Makes me sad. Peeps over here earning $20. an hr. and Im missing out. I loved my old job in Ga,

Wow. I forgot how busy this thread is. Took me 10 minutes to catch up with today!!! 🤣 So fun seeing people I haven't seen in a while. Glad most of you are doing okay!

Granny Hatchet, I'm sorry it sounds like you had a heart attack. That is very tough. :hugs

I can't possibly respond to all the comments I've read today. Still trying to soak it all in. But here are a couple that stood out to me.

That is amazing! I'm so moved by your compassion for this breed!

Hi there! All we have to do it get over that mountain and we'd be neighbors!

I won't let my husband get on the roof. He IS 70. He is always upset when I pay someone to come clean the gutters, but I'm afraid of heights, so he has to live with that. :lau

:hugs

I'm so sorry. It must be terrible to deal with depression that hits you out of the blue. I've only experienced depression that has a source, such as the death of my son. That grief can strike me out of the blue, so maybe I understand a little. :hugs
Lost my husband 3 years ago. I still find myself having a terribly sad time with a particular memory.

I wonder why I am eating so slow. Its something new within the last couple months. It took me over 2 hours to eat dinner today. :idunno
I'm eating slow because I can't swallow as well. My esophagus is getting more tight. I really don't need to go see my gastroenterologist .

Valerie, I am so sorry that you lost your son. :hugs
I eat very slowly too but I know why. I have dry mouth pretty bad. I don't have enough saliva to keep things moving properly. I eat about a fourth of what my DH eats, and it takes me two or three times as long to eat it. I'll still be working on it and he's off in the living room watching the news without me, and the kids are long gone, lol. Sometimes I think I want a second serving ... but it's all gone. I've learned to set aside a small portion for myself in case I might want "leftovers" for my lunch the next day.
This is also part of my problem with swallowing. :(

Got my first one in 1986 and was self taught to program on that one. I wrote two programs without any help with the computer language then. I had a program to evaluate stock trades and one to evaluate nutrient consumption from foods eaten for a given period of time. Now you can buy programs for both. Some food programs are more bling than useful. Some written to grab dollars from unsuspecting users.
Well, that is impressive!!! :bow My first experience with a computer was taking a job for a start up company that wanted their books on a computer. IN THE INTERVIEW, I told them I didn't use computers, never had, and had no clue how. They said, "Don't worry, we'll teach you." Good opportunity, right?

Well, long story short, they sat me in front of a computer with a software floppy disk and a storage floppy disk and a book!!! I turned it on and put the disk in and it said "format disk". I had to go ask what that meant. Needless to say, I was clueless. But, I started reading the book and I set up their bookkeeping and entered the first 6 months of data, ran financial statements, etc. I was so proud of myself. Then I took the storage disk and promptly erased everything I did by restoring instead of backing up. :lau It was much faster second time around to get it set up and the data entered.

Then they wanted me to learn Symphony, a spreadsheet/word processing/database program, by reading the book. I set up a database to track all the congregate care facilities in the greater Orange County, CA. After I did that, they decided to send me to a college class for Symphony. I went, but honestly, by that time I could have taught it. I didn't learn anything new and knew more than he taught. lol

That was supposed to be the short version of my computer story. It sort of turned into a shaggy dog story. :gig
