I know how bad that arthritis hurts! I have had both knees replaced. The right one has been done twice!. The first time was in 2009 I was 61 years young and still working full time doing home health nursing. It hurt like H E double hockey sticks! but with the pain pills and PT I was back to work in 6 weeks. That knee gave out in 2017 so it was replaced again. After it was done I realized how bad the left one was so had it done too. I haven't had problems with the knees, but as I get older arthritis is setting into other joints. One thing I have discovered is that the less I weigh the better my knees feel. I still do the leg strengthening exercises that I was taught when I had the surgery and try to keep my weight down. Not always successful with that.So. My ortho in Cape sent me to a bone specialist in St Louis. They took x-rays of both knees, six (or eight?) angles. And I got to look at them, even took pics of them with my phone camera. So it made sense to me and I could understand WHY when she told me, basically .. I need a knee replacement. I'm not bone-on-bone, but if you look at this pic you'll see two sharp protrusions in the middle of the knee. Yeah, that's arthritis. That's what hurts. It won't go away. And it makes me a candidate for a replacement. It was a lot to think about. Oh and oh yeah. She says if not Prolia, I need to be on SOMETHING to strengthen my bones. So I've been pondering that, too. Along with when to schedule this surgery. August sometime, I guess. Melissa and I will both be laid up. Or ... take turns? Sigh. A lot to think about.
