what type of tree is this, birch? Is that a vine growing around it and the chickens are digging it up for you?

Nope, it is a redbud tree and those are redbud suckers growing up around it. They can't hurt it, redbuds are hardy and some people consider them pests. The chickens are fertilizing and cultivating it!View attachment 4183801
