We found a vet open today that will put her down
I'm not putting her through this anymore longer.

We lost our Sydney when she was just 16 months old. When they told us at MIZZOU that they couldn't save her and I gave them permission to end her suffering I broke down in sobs in the middle of our pasture. I couldn't understand how such a young vital dog could be taken so quickly and to a point, still don't but, yeah, @pertnear09, you are right it even happens to children. Thank you for that perspective. It doesn't make sense, but yeah, it does help thinking about it that way.

This morning I decided to have coffee and tea.
The tea is a catnip flower head, if it tastes as good as it smells I’ll be drying more for later on.

Thank you, Shrek, she has been gone 4 years now. Hard to believe.

No, she contracted a rare parasite infection called Pythiosis. It's not even supposed to be this far north but it's contracted from drinking or swimming in standing water like ponds, pools or even water puddles. She started vomiting then started passing these really foul loose stools. The old term for it is Swamp Cancer because the parasite infestation causes these internal masses that resemble cancer tumors but aren't. Her necropsy showed that she had these tumors throughout her internal organs. It happened so fast, like less than a week and she was gone as there is no treatment for this parasite.

We filled the pool we think she got the parasite from and planted a tree there in remembrance of Sydney.

Interesting indeed. I'll be looking forward to seeing if it's a go or a no. I have catnip growing in one of my flowerbeds.

Hopefully you won't be jumping in the air, rolling around on the floor acting silly and swatting anything that has the bad judgement to come between you and your mug of tea...just joking. We sprinkle catnip on the floor and watch our cats turn into first rate goofballs. Rolling around on it, scooping up paw fulls of the leaf and rubbing their faces on it.

Never thought about making tea out of it...well the fresh leaf or buds that is.

I'm sorry Cynthia, Im not there to see but I can imagine how traumatic this is for the both of you. I hope you can feel our arms and heart reaching out to both of you.

How would you know if this is safe to drink?
Also, Umm... What kind of coffee pot is that?

Yes it is awful and like I said, it wasn't even all that prevalent in Missouri. I looked it up at the time and there were under 10 reported incidents in the state. They say that after the age of 3 or 4 dogs are immune to the parasite so that is a plus but we look at standing water even our ponds differently now.
