Granny's gone and done it again

I remember we had a big ice storm back in IL. About an inch of ice. We managed to snare the last generator in town and thank goodness we did cause the lights went out and that generator ran our furnace and refrigerator after the power failed. 4 days later, still no power. All you could see outside was ice as far as the eye could see and endless dark with no lights. Couldn't tell where the yard ended and the road began. 5 days no power I looked out all the windows and noticed that there were lights on in the distance but none on our road so I called the power company. They were puzzled and said we should have power. Nope. Turned out a tree limb had fell across a power line on a lane leading to a house at the end of our road and that had taken out the power in our area. We were about 5.5 days without power that time. Generators can save your bacon....literally.

@BigBlueHen53 did you have a nice Sabbath?

Yep, for sure. I stopped by the barn on the way back to load some firewood on my sled and it was hard bending over. Had snow boots, ski bib pants, heavy (feels like 10 pounds) army surplus sherpa lined knee length coat that is my farm coat. Stocking cap, thermal shirt, heavy jeans and gloves on. I figure about 16-18 pounds of clothing.
I have lots of insulation. naturally.

I think we will wind up with about 5. Haven't looked out at the table on the deck lately to see. I was just thrilled when I went out at 4 and all the bird's water was open and thawed that I had put out this morning.

Sure will be glad when the temps get above freezing or close to it.

We have a generator. One we used for camping for our trailer. It sits in the garage. Hasn't been started in years. Im thinking we need to get that going. If power went out for a length of time, it could keep our freezer outside going and our fridge inside.
Just open the lid of the outside freezer, lol.

did you have a nice Sabbath?
Actually yes we did, thank you! Quiet. Napped a little, read a little, watched some church on tv. Ate beans ... read the Bible and prayed. Not much else to do when you're socked in like this. Oh, and checked on the chickens a bit, of course. 🐓🐓🐓
