Just dropping in: the roo looks a bit better this morning. His eye is open and he's very energetic. I'm cooking for a group all day, all by myself, so I won't be able to doctor him until this afternoon or evening.

I've been out of commission for a couple of days and have missed quite a bit. Guess I brought a spider in the house with me and it repaid me by biting me. So glad you got your babies, Granny and so sad to hear about your foot! Stay diligent with the bandage changes, keeping it dry, etc., and am praying for the best.

Campingshaws, I am sorry to hear you're dealing with pox. Best of luck treating it. You have advice from some pretty smart folks on here!

Wishing4Wings, the storage area over the nesting boxes is genius. I may have to steal that idea as I'm not completely happy with the way DH set up our nesting boxes. Plus, I think he put them too high off the coop floor. He's the carpenter, however and has specific ideas about how things should be - never mind what the chickens prefer. LOL

what are you being punished for ? it must of been something really bad to have to stay in the torture chamber all day !

wishing4wings, one word, BEAUTIFUL ! the coops are so nice and very well made. did you do them? and your flock looks pretty happy and healthy too. nice cages, rabbit is big for a baby. You did all these pictures for us and i am going to ask for one more. LOL the seramas, why do you have 2 to rehome ? thank you for sharing

I think it would be scary to go to Alcatraz . the boogie man would get me. lol might be the perfect place for those teens. hahaa wouldnt it be cool to sneak some bantams over there and turn them loose? If there is water of course. hahaa I dont want to go anywhere that i can only get to by boat. too many jaws movies to suit me. the sun is shining and i think i am going to go get me some of that !!

granny, the two Seramas need to go because the rooster has become a crowing maniac. He is very sweet and a perfect gentleman to the hens, but since we let some cockerels grow to crowing stage, the rooster got in the habit of trying to out crow them. We live in a rural neighborhood, so while roosters are legal, it really isn't fair to people trying to sleep in. If he just crowed and quit, it would be okay, but he goes on and on, multiple crows, every 20 minutes, all morning. I don't mind it, but I cannot be responsible for the guy next door who is about to blow a gasket and keel over. You know, some people are just wound more tightly than others. The hen going with him is very bonded. She wails when taken away from him, so they will stay together.

These were the first two we got for my younger son. He raised them from chicks.

Coffee and Donut at about 3-4 weeks.

A little older, living in the garage cage.

Such a handsome boy!

Donut immortalized on an Easter egg. Well, immortalized until I made egg salad!

I have some recent pics of them for the craigslist ad. They're still in my camera

but I'll post some soon.

campingshaws, good to hear your rooster is doing better. I have seen pics posted of worse looking birds that recovered well with good care. It's such a nasty looking disease, poor chickens, but it's amazing how they can heal. Good luck!

mrsc, glad you are feeling better. The storage areas are really handy. Good place to put the eggs when collecting from the nest boxes. My hubs had never been around chickens before, so he relied on me to set the specs for the coops, but he did most of the building. I was the support staff.

Cabinet magnets hold the doors shut.

granny, I forgot to answer your other questions. I have a mind like a steep trap sieve! My hubs built the coops with help from me and the boys. I can do most of the work, but my result does not generally meet the standard of Mr. Perfection. I try to tell him that they are just chicken coops, and function is much more important to me than looks. I'm not a very fancy person.

My younger boy and I built this ground cage by ourselves. It was a little wobbly and the fit was not very tight. I don't have the hand strength. After hubs got done admiring all our hard work, he backed out all the screws and fixed it to his liking.

I'm not complaining!!

I was scarred by Jaws as well. Was leery of even going in a pool. Do you remember the Carol Burnett sketch where they were trying to catch Jaws out of the toilet?

We had a beautiful day for the boat ride to Alcatraz. The bigger the boat, the less scary it is.
View of San Francisco and the Bay Bridge.

bye-bye to The Rock and its ghosts.

This summer we went to Alaska and did a whale watching tour. It was amazing! No sharks, but we did see these:
A pod of orcas! There were 13 in the pod.

and 4 humpback whales feeding. So cool!

wow, i am impressed !! what wonderful memories you are making.lucky lucky girl. the seramas are very cute. I wouldnt care if they crowed all day and night ! lol what is wrong mrsc, i didnt see where she was sick??

ohh, i see it mrsc, thank you. i am ok. a spider hu? did you see what it was? I dont think i have ever been bit or if i have it didnt bother me. the person that is cleaning the coops is terrified of spiders. good thing it was dark in there. lol

Just made it back for a quick minute. WOW gone (off the net) for a week !!! Congrats to those who need and best of luck to the others, Granny behave or maybe that teenage cage for you. LOL

Will try to make it back on more often.

RANT RANT Just got done unplugging a toilet STUPID WOMAN tried to flush down pumpkin guts and the pieces she carved out of the pumpkin and then wondered why the toilet plugged. Got it working and then told her she could clean up the mess cuz I am not responsible to idiots.!!!!!! Also told her if the toilet don't flush for GODS sake don't keep crapping in it and then watch it over flow. Water and little floaties of tp and bm over an inch deep in the bathroom. ME standing there with a plunger seriously considered using it on her after the toilet opened up. About lost my cookies they were chasing my patiences . Some people just need a keeper.
