I hope not red.I'll keep my fingers crossed for it to be a hen. The last several chicks I've bought I'm betting 85 percent are roos. We gonna be eating a lot of chickens.

I have one that had a distressed hatch, some dried gunk found in the shell. It was weaker than the others and took longer to start growing. No butt on it, like it didn't gt all the yolk. Caught up and I can't even remember which one it was. The pretty cockerel, I think.
My hatchery Wellsummer didn't have a butt either (ie not developed fully). 1 wk of intensive care, and she finally started growing at 2 weeks.
It may be good that it's shy. Maybe a hen?

How old is she granny? Maybe she's getting arthritis and don't wanna jump down?Red, my polish roo is doing that ! just keeps turning in circles . WTH ? I am worried about one of my tobunt hens. I have had to take her off the roost for the past 2 days. everything I know to check looks good and she seems happy to get down and go eat and drink. Roosts are tall but she managed before just fine.
