X4 I also wish you the best and hope the infection is clearing. BTW, buttermilk in cake provides the acid needed for rising. Used instead of baking powder. Also adds moistness to the cake.

hi guys,

i have been in the hospital all weekend.

i was pretty sick, still am but ok i guess. i was freezing and on fire at the same time with no fever. i tried to wait it out but after dry heaving for 4 days i knew i had nothing left. ambulance took me to hospital where they ran a few tests. i was completly dehydrated they had to call someone in to start an IV. the sulfa antibiotics they had me on for my foot caused bad reaction . gastrointeritis. according to the ct scan. about 8-9 bags of water and tons of medicine i am home. i didnt eat for 3 day and still dont want to. i managed a few potato chips today and a couple glasses of water. i fell in the hospital and injured my foot again. it was aweful. i was only allowed up with assist but that didnt do much good and leave it to me. i was in a hurry to get to the pot and didnt make it. peed all over this open wound then slipped in it. LOL good times. any way, i am home and good news. i dont think i am supposed to be doing this but i walked, yes walked outside to the chicken coop today. it was awesome ! i am using a walker but i did it. aint gonna keep me down.

Hey granny! Hope your doing well. I had another question? I have 6 barred rock hens and 1 red hen(unknown breed. She was a rescue) is my 3×6 coop with 4×8 run going to be enough housing for winter? They will be going out in chick tractor during decent weather?
hi, so your coop is 18 sq. ft and each bird should have 4 sq. inside. you have 7 hens. 7x4 =28 you are missing 10 sq. ft for the coop. the run is different it varies but the more room the better. a lot of people recommend 10 sq.ft for the run. that would be 70 you have 32. this is floor space. Its pretty small. how big is the chicken tractor and can you attach it to what you have now? or maybe divide them up between the 2 places?

Good to hear from you granny. I was kind of thinking your absence had something to do with the infection. Quite the hospital adventures you had! Glad you are better, and home, and got to see your birds! That must have been a treat after all you've been through.

X2 good to hear from you! Wow sounds like you were really sick, glad your starting to feel better. Be careful walking out to the coop!

Glad you're home -sorry you had to be in the hospital, but it sounds a if that's where you needed to be. Good that you are using a walker, just take it easy. After what you've been through it is so easy to over do and in the process undo all the good.

I'm sure your chickens were as happy to see you as you were to see them!

lol, morning all ! IM HUNGRY !!!!! so when i got home i was sitting in the van waiting while some shoes were found for me to get out. thw worker was here and her and my husband goes in the house and out comes frosty. i thought oh boy shes gone for sure now but for some reason i never said a word.how that dog knew i was home is beyond me but she came straight to the van and jumped from the gravel to my lap in one leap! thats in a mini van. that a big jump for a little dog. i never had so many kisses ! i had told tom because she still poops in the house one in a while like once a week or something , that if she dont stop i am going to rehome her because tom is not supposed to bend over. it makes him pass out from his bp. well, all that went out the window as soon as she landed in my lap. lol when they came outside and seen her in my lap the look on their faces was so funny.

Glad to see you're home Granny! And your sweet pup missed you! And so did we. ;)

I picked up four sussex yesterday (Sharon's gone and done it!) and the roo is GORGEOUS!! I can't stop looking at him, he's just so pretty. The hens aren't as flashy as my pullets, but that roo!!
