I want a fancy breed that I can sell hatching eggs for $15-20 a dozen, like with the sussex. This is just for my hobby breed, not the same as the camp flock or the layers.

I'm always up for advise. :)

Try to find the breed that has been in this country for the shortest lenght of time. If there is a breeder club for that breed, go there for your information. Breeders tend to exaggerate about their chickens because they want you yo buy their chickens not someone else's.

Buy adult chickens. That way you know what to expect your chicks to look like. Buying eggs from what is supposed to be quality stock is a stab in the dark.

Research the breed to make sure they lay a decent number of eggs PER YEAR. Some of the fancy breeds lay well in the spring, then take a 9 month vacation.

Landrace breeds are very popular because people who own them can tell individual birds apart.

Above all MAKE SURE you are buying healthy birds from a healthy flock.

Quarantine, quarantine, quarantine!!

Would you like to know my method of quarantine? I have kept my flock disease free for the last 29 years using my method......

Howdy!

Are you from Sally's place?

Im such a stickler for detail . look on the right side and starting in the front count back 5 2x4s ..
granny, I'm sure they will cut off the support posts.

and too, when all the weight is on the joists, they will all settle out to the same elevation, regardless of the varying crown.

enola, I'd like to know it. unless it involves chicken diapers.

Of course!

This lady is a BYC member on the Louisiana thread. I've been following her breeds and progress for a couple of years. She's NPIP. And she told me to call with any questions, even about breeds she doesn't have.

Not trying to be argumentative, just saying that I feel a little more secure in this than a craigslist transaction.

they used metal braces for the joists and that one is above the frame.

No chicken diapers, no chickens in the house here. It will take a while for me to type up. So I will do it later today, while I am resting.

Packing is calling me........

she(enola) has the best quarantine method there is. You should post it in the learning center enola.
