So I went to the wedding the other day. Stressed out for nothing. I was the only one they invited from our group back then. It was lovely. Except for the heat. I took a mental health day yesterday. Not sure what today will hold.

Glad you enjoyed it. And really glad to hear the temps have gone down for you. We are in our typical August foggy morning pattern.

What are you seeing that makes you lean in each direction? Lavender doesn't have any shaded male coloring yet, so

According the the accuweather it should be in the 70s today and tomorrow and go back up. Think my husband wants to take the kids to cushman wed. It's ice melt water. Super cold so 90 will be good then.

Tail feathering and feathering in general. The roolet cochin mix I had was a naked dinosaur for a while. The pullets feather in faster. Edit: and hona makes grow their combs very quickly. I'll find one to show you after brunch.

I've read lots of articles about sexing a chick by the tail feathering. If I ever hatch again I'm gonna make my predictions and see how that goes.

Oh, so they are the same age?  Don't some breeds develop more slowly in general?  (I trying to get to first one to be a pullet!)

"Some breeds" yes, but these are my mixes and I haven't been pleasantly surprised yet by a slow-feathering chick. :/ The cochins have a tendency to look boyish because they're so big, so I'm always relieved when it's a pullet.

This is the absent father? As long as you are not forcing the boys (which I know you aren't), I think it's a good idea. Even if they never have anything to do with him, they will always wonder. And a little "better late than never" might give them a little more peace about the whole thing. My dad was in his 50s before his dad ever bothered to contact him. They never actually met, though. The man died before it could happen, but I do think even the phone contact put my dad a bit more at ease. Prayers it all goes well.

I tried it with the sussex. Put tails in one brooder, no tails in the other. Nearly all tails were roos (can't remember pullets but I don't want to say 100%) and some of the tails were also roos.
