Grape leaves? Really?

Quote:
Now I am hungry and I just ate lunch. Thanks.

We used to get dolmades at a deli in Sausalito, CA. I made them once and they are king of a PITA, but soo tasty!

Edited because I ate lunch, not lung.

I have 2 grape vines growing along my duck pen fence. They are both stripped clean for the first couple of feet. The ducks look hilarious trying to jump up and grab leaves that are higher up

They are nothing more than a great treat for them. People eat them, and chickens LOVE grapes so I'm sure the leaves are just like any other green in their diet.

The chickens spent most of last year hanging out under the grape vine trellis. There was a path down the middle of the whole thing from chickens eating grapes, leaves, and weeds.

Mine LOVE them! We have an old concord grape vine we inherited when we bought our home 16 years ago. My girls practically jump with joy when they see me picking leaves for them! I give them the younger tender leaves so I don't chance a blockage. That probably wouldn't happen but I admit, I am obsessive, I just can't help myself.

Mmm... Dolmades... herbed rice and/or meat on the inside, grape leaves rolled around that and marinated in olive oil and lemon juice... a staple of Greek/middle eastern cuisine. Good stuff. The leaves are fine for chickens and humans alike, and now I have a real hankering to cook.

You know, I work part. time for a vineyard...I think the next time I go there, I'll get some leaves off and make these. I love them so much...never thought of making them myself.

My bantam cochin roo and his mille fleur d'uccle ladyfriend are hilarious to watch hopping up to grab the green grapes off our vine. Especially the m.f... she looks like a video game if you just hit the "jump" button.

My chook run is covered with grape vines and neatly trimmed to jumping height. They love the leaves and and the grapes even better. It was great fun watching them leap up to grab them.
