Hi everyone
I have a chicken with respiratory problems started yesterday..a neighbour(my chicken lady) said to use grapefruit extracts.
Which I can get at the mo due to covid 19..but can I use juice from a fresh Grapefruit? If so how much please ?
Many thanks new the the forum x

Can you give more information?

What are the respiratory problems - does your chicken have symptoms like coughing, sneezing, wheezing, mucous, pus or bubbles in the eyes, etc.?
Crop emptying?
How old is the chicken - does it lay eggs? Any bloat or fluid in the abdomen?

Photos?

I don't know anything about giving grapefruit for respiratory problems. If your Chicken Lady has given you that suggestion, then she should be able to tell you if you can use fresh grapefruit or not.

She 2yrs old..lays..crop empty..watery poos..checked vent no egg stuck..Eyes not swollen but look sore..no cough sneeze..just eyes closed sitting around..lethargic..when I whistle at her she opens her eye( squinting) stands up walks around abit then closes her eyes(like she going to sleep)

When is the last time she laid an egg?

No respiratory symptoms. The eyes look sore? Are they red or something when she opens them?
Her standing and having her eyes closed, obviously she's not feeling well.
Hard to know what's going on with her - in laying hens a lot of times they suffer from reproductive problems (Internal Laying, Egg Yolk Peritonitis, cancer, etc.), worms is something else to consider, crop issues and lice/mites should also be considered.

I try to get her hydrated, feel her abdomen for bloat/swelling, check the crop first thing in the morning it should be empty, smell her breath and look inside her beak for any canker or yellow lesions, look her over for lice/mites.
