Folks,

Have 15 Cornish cross meat birds. 5 weeks old. I had fed them 29% protein Turkey starter which I now realize was a likely a mistake. About half have a swollen belly, some more than others. The worst case of which was a very small bird, less than half the size of the others. Bluish colour, very swollen abdomen. I felt sorry for it and decided to dispatch of it. I had researched and thought I had ascites. I figured the autopsy would reveal water in chest cavity. There was no water. Instead the stomach was grossly enlarged. It was enlarged to the point that it was positioned immediately under the thin tissues covering abdomen. From what I could tell all other organs were fine, though the poor bird had very small breasts and drumsticks. Looked starved.

The rest of the birds are very large, much bigger then the should be. A neighbour got some at the same time and his are 30% smaller. His were fed chicken starter.

See pictures (if I can post them).

Looks like I cannot post images!!

My question is does anyone know the disease/condition I am dealing with?

Please post in the meat birds section, for the best advice re: feeding Cornish x. Sorry this happened - the poor things are doomed to die early to begin with.

Not looking for help with feeding though I think that's were the trouble started. :-(
