I would put up some hardware cloth because from the picture it looks like whatever it is went through the chicken wire.

Use a dead chicken for bait in the trap. It obviously is coming back for them. I say racoons too.

I cant say enough about prevention! Electric Fence is the best prevention I can ever think of and is good on Almost any predator out there! Next thing is a good wheat light and a good varmit rifle and a Hav a Hart trap! But Electirc fence I would not be without! I am going to get some electric poultry netting and try it even though i think its a little high priced compared to the electric fence price for $20 and a chrger for $20 to $60! Also use multiple wires starting at 3 inches off the ground and going 6 inch increments after that up to 18 inches off the ground! This will keep out even dogs
