GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

After I separated the teste, I used a dentist hook to puncture it and pull it out.

No, I mean, how did you separate the teste? Did you use the string method?

An older rooster of mine died last week and I refrigerated him so I could practice on him, he was a Bantam Cochin, about 3 yrs old. I just now finished, nerve-wracking. I somehow managed to use the method where you wrap the string around and 'saw' to separate the teste. But I had to hold the other end of the thread with hemostats to maneuver it. I'd have surely killed him if he hadn't already been dead :-/ the thread broke *3 times on one siade and twice on the other. Kass or Coral-can I use tooth floss or some sort of stronger thread? The thread that I was using came with the Chinese capon set.
My God....how many birds are going to die before I get this right?? I feel so inadequate because some people here have never lost a single bird & I've already lost 3 out of 12 I've cut into!

Yes, I used the thread tool wrap around the testes and saw them off. As far as I know this is the only working method for big testes without destroying or broke it. It is PIA to perfectly wrap the thread around the testes here is some tips I found its useful.
1. Use a hook (I used a dentist tool from walgreens) to break/hook/clean as much connecting tissue/membrane as possible.
2. Use a lift (the spoon looking tool) to lift it up while you wrap the thread around the testes.
3. Be very gentle you start to "saw" when you are sure the thread is around the teste and stay at the "root".

Do not use fishing thread or dental floss because they are too smooth and you don't have "sawing" action.
I just used a regular sowing thread it breaks too at the beginning that is the sign that you are using too much force. Take your time "saw" not "pull".

Thank you. Good tips! I thought of maybe using one of those suction bulbs cut off so the testicle could be sucked up into it. I may try that on one that is already dead.
I did manage to get both testicles out complete as far as I know. Not sure why 1 is so much bigger than the other

Have never tried floss but don't see why you couldn't. But go to the fabric store and look at the upholstery thread, it is seriously thick and impossible to break, but will still have "tooth" for cutting.
