GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

Thank you Kassaundra! I sure appreciate the support here, no one else can understand but other crazy chicken people!

I don't think I will be tackling older birds again for a while. The older fellow will just see the pot a bit sooner, with far less meat than I was hoping for.
They both seem to be doing good so far. All three were happy to see food and water again......I think that is the hardest part!

Yes, fasting and feather pulling seem to be the worst hated parts.

I agree, the only other time I have gotten a complaint from them is with the spreader, but even then this particular bird was more upset about the restraint and feather pulling!!!
It's funny how they get over things so fast.
Anytime someone asks me "how i can do this to an awake animal?" I ask them if they would feel like eating right after something like this, then respond with "well the bird will"!
It's always amusing at how surprised they are to see food in their cage right after the procedure!!!!

The bird, or the the annoying person telling me how I am violating animal rights

?

I usually do not, I don't want to restrict breathing, but the second bird I did today would not lay his head down and relax. I put a washcloth over his head to calm him down a bit. It worked well.

I agree too, the sock would encourage to much "rebreathing" imho, I have laid a wash cloth or other fabric over the head occasionally w/ an exceptionally flighty bird, but wouldn't do a sock.

Well, that's interesting. I thought it was the best way. And now that I have you, I need you to show me a picture of Rudy's red coat. I can't find it and people on another thread are talking about it.
