GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

This old Sears manual helped me a lot with the figure A drawing... you just have to turn on your "x-ray vision" and keep in mind where you are going in, where the spine is in relation to your entry, testes tight to the spine after the lungs, testes might be black instead of yellow ( or any mix of black and yellow).

If you're two ribs up instead of one, you can wind up in the lung compartment. Juan gives a good way to find the valley. I pull the skin overly tight to the rear, push my thumbnail in between the ribcage and thigh, then let my thumbnail ride up over the first rib with the skin until it pops into the valley. Then I make the cut.

To check that you are making the incision in the right place, pull the skin gently toward the spine and press lightly. If you are over the intercostal space, the indentation will be obvious in birds younger than six months old. Older birds have more muscle and the space is harder to find.

Ok I should finally have some boys to try out my new tools this season. I have some 3 week olds, gonna wait till 6 weeks unless I still can't determine sex (pea combs). Is 6 weeks too early?
so from my understanding there is a film/casing around the testes and this is hard to open correctly. Is this correct?
Edited to add: And I see there is a bungee to tie down the wings, is there any description exactly how to do that? hard to tell from pics. I would love one of those chairs the chinese use! You can do it all from the comfort of your living room, lol!

I've place my order. I'll let everyone know when I get confirmation.

Hope everyone can enjoy this beautiful weather. I'm inside working on my portfolio. Oklahoma wants teachers to prove they deserve their paychecks, so I'm documenting different learning strategies I've employed in my classroom. I'm not complaining. I'm blessed to be working and to have such amazing kids to work with.

Summer will be here soon. Is there any call for a capon clinic in June or July? I know it will be hot, but if everything is done indoors, it should be okay.

I would be interested in attending a clinic but can't the very last weekend in June. Karen

Touching base to say hello and let you know about the knee replacement surgery on March 10. Not enough time to get all I want done but soonest done I can get back to the chickens.
I hatched out five Sebrights last night. Started
with 7 so I consider that a great hatch. Ha

Hi from NC! I had no idea caponizing was a "thing" until last week when I suddenly wondered "how do you neuter a rooster?" Now, after a week of reading all the caponizing info I can find, I am very interested in trying this. If there is anyone in NC, VA or SC who knows how to do it or wants to try to learn together, please let me know! I also want to buy a Chinese kit next time there are enough people to make an order. Thanks guys... all your info is so helpful and you rock!

Hope the surgery goes well and wish you a speedy recovery. Most everyone I know that has had it has said it has made quite a diff. in their pain and mobility, for the good.
