GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

Greetings:

Tools are boxed and ready to ship. I'm still working to disassemble our fallen tree. It's going to take another week to section the trunk. The damage could have been a lot worse, so I'm not complaining. Again, my apologies for the delay.

Uggh... I see chain link, did it wipe out a coop/run?
Tools arrived pretty quick, love the Angry Birds case Lol!
Now it's time to figure out who the boys are, and give them a try. Looks like I have several NN cockerels, easy to pick them out, not sure on JG's or the JG/silkie crosses yet.

The tree crushed an empty pen and destroyed a honey-crisp apple tree.

A friend is driving out from Tahlequah on Wednesday to hold the camera while I caponize. I'll try to post a video on Friday. I've got appointments all day on Thursday, so I doubt I'll have any time for editing.

@Poco Pollo I drove to town to pick up my tools from the mail box today! They look absolutely fantastic and even just holding them I can feel how much higher quality they are than the Nasco or even the antique American tools. In particular the rib spreaders seem very well made. I'll be testing them out this Wednesday (hopefully). They're definitely different than the tools I've previously worked with so it will take some work to get used to them. I also think I may be able to mix and match with the antique American set to see if that would be beneficial.

To anyone reading this thread considering ordering the Chinese tools from @Poco Pollo: Definitely do it! They're the best quality I've found so far and are not much more expensive than tools of poor quality like the Nasco set.

I caponized three cockerels for a friend today. The first is a white leghorn. He was not happy about missing a meal, and when I put the rib dilator in he scolded me for not preheating the flanges. His bossy days are behind him. His parts were enormous. I hope he turns into a calm, happy, fatty who spends his time dust bathing with the hens and talking about how silly people look when the feed chickens early, early in the morning.

The second is a cross. He's beautiful with red and blue in his feathers, and his temperament is already calm and friendly. He didn't complain during the procedure, and when I spritzed him with Vetericyn before putting him in the recovery cage, he did a little wiggle, the way kids do after they climb out of a swimming pool. Aaaahhh. Just right. Time for lunch.

The third will have his second testicle removed in a couple of weeks. He seemed overly stressed during the procedure, so I took one side and put him in with his buddies to have lunch.

Studying this thread intently... I've always been so afraid of caponizing growing up, but with a few more years under my belt now.. I'll finally under-take it if I end up with too many cockerels.
