*GRAPHIC PICTURES* Roo almost pecked to death...

Well, I went to the gas station thats about 3-4 miles away and got some Smartwater, which is filtered water and electrolytes, and some oatmeal. Anything else i should do? I have him in the barn right now by the way (but the floodlight help keep him warm).

Sounds like you're doing the right things- but be careful of that light! Last thing you need is a fire. And tomorrow, start looking for homes for roos. My most recent EE roo came from my local Craig's List.

Once a roo has taken this kind of a beating, even the hens will get in on the pecking. You most likely will not be able to reintroduce him to the flock.

I have a BIG leghorn roo and he got into it with one of the other roos. I am thinking that they both came out of it about even.

He did manage to assert himself back into the flock, but he had a few bad roo days getting there.

He is doing fine and I have not seen a fight since in the barn.

I think he was knocked down a notch by one of the aggressive polish roos I have coming of age.

Man-- I better separate my roo's before spring I guess---
I have 3 Silkie Roos and only 2 hens-- 2 OE banty Roos to 1 hen-- 1 Sebright roo and 1 hen-- 2 HUGE Rock Roo's--and now a new Aracauna Roo (young)
ALL are in one coop with 8 Rock Hens and 12 hens of assorted breeds for a total of 33 birds....
no real fighting among Roo's--- but the Aracauna gets picked on....
Have homes for my Rock Roo's.... so should I separate the others????

"ointment (w/o painkiller in it"

Why??
Thanks

I had this happen last week. I brought him into the basement in a dog crate and gave him a bath to clean him up. he drank some water out of the faucet. Then I followed some advice of other posts and mixed pine tar with neosporin and covered his comb and wattles. I just reintroduced him last night but today there was no blood on him and he actually came out of the coop into the run. That pine tar is some sticky, nasty smellin stuff but so far it weems to be working.
