When you mow the lawn can you give the clippings to the babies, or maybe dig out a clump of grass with dirt left on? My babies are two weeks and one day old today!

Thanks!

I dont know about grass, as it is so thin.....but I give mine dandelion, chicory, lamb's quarters, burdock, chickweed....

I think that you just want to give them grit..... and make sure that they cannot slurp up too big of pieces and get them impacted in the crop.

If I was going to give grass, I would give it with a clump of dirt or roots so that they could use the weight of the dirt to tear off bite sized pieces.

I've been giving mine a clump of grass every day for the last three days and they love it! Especially the dirt at the bottom. I think that's their favorite part!

I give mine a little clump of sod every 4-5 days, preferably with some bugs and worm in it! Mine are exactly the same age as yours and they love it.

I have lots of animals so hay is a given at our place. I give my chickens a part of a flake of alfalfa every 5-7 days. They destroy it in short order and scratch/pick through it until the next time. Its great for boosting the yellow factor in eggs! Until my chicks are old enough to go outside in the pasture (if my protective nature will ever allow it!) they get alfalfa occasionally.
