Grass for geese questions

Desert goose keepers! We are attempting to use turf until we can invent some kind of plantingbed for home grown goose grasses. Does any one have a suggestion for grass varieties that wil grow in the so. AZ desert with alittle TLC? poultry pals
I've been researching for my area since we live in the mountains with shade and rocky soil. so far fescue has been the one rec. for here. if you google you may find one that works in your area. You can also grow fodder there are links here on BYC and online else where that gives directions.
Wish I could give you a name of a grass but anyway Welcome to BYC

Here, I have Zoysia Emerald. The geese like it and we find it´s really tough, drought-proof, grows well also in damp areas, shade, etc. survives a frost, but colder than that, I don´t know.
The other grass we have here is a type of brachiaria, but that´s in the marsh area. They like that, too.

Thankyou miss lydia and livininbrazil. Our grass experiments continue. Temperature is a problem here. We are attempting to grow some bermuda. Seems slow this time of year with our temps like July. We are currently feeding the geese (mom dad and 3kids) a poultry feed, mazuri waterfowl, cracked corn, lettuce and dampened bermuda hay.

Why dampened hay? I understand hay can mold pretty quick. when I feed hay to my flock in the winter I just put it out where it will stay dry and let them have it. I use Timothy and other soft grasses mixed together. One of my areas I have fenced off for grass for my geese has been a flop. I planted perennial but it is not doing a thing so i have opened it up for my chickens and next I'll plant winter rye it does real well here once weather cools off.

Give only enough to eat in a short time...minutes..not long enough to mold. They take the dry and put it in a puddle when there is one...we are sti

We're in the mountains of North Carolina and no desert here we are having heat and humidity along with rain but not monsoon. lol. Where are you?

We are insouthern arizona near Tucson in Marana. Out here we are off the grid and are a donkey rescue. This part 9f the desert has a lot of cactus and small trees adapted to thissevere environment. I went to N C a long time ago. Saw some pretty country there.

Much different than AZ for sure, never been there but years ago we actually thought of moving somewhere around Flagstaff. Your doing a great work helping the donkeys out.

Thanks again miss lydia. When we all have so many types of critters it's hard to do mu h traveling. Could you see someone trying to travel at a mojor airport or bus terminal with a couple of chickens, ducks, turks, or geese? Perhaps a small donkey? Well it makes agood cartoon in this country.

It would make a good cartoon like Ma an Pa Kettle. well I don't travel either but I am not much for it anyway. Do you adopt out the Donkeys at your rescue? We see in our closest city paper they have wild horse and burrow adoptions about once a year.
