I think my girls might have eaten grass seed. They keep pecking it and I have to shoo them away. I know they ate it I just don't know if it is grass seed or not. But will they be okay if it is? :(

The grass seed should not be coated with anything that would harm them----if it was poisonous---think of all the birds that would die from eating it. They should be OK. BUT I would keep them penned till the grass seed gets started good.

They like various types of plants and grasses-mine go crazy when I throw some in their coop. They should be fine having some seed.

Thank you!

Oddly, our grass is pretty long in some spots cause we had a few storms then warm weather, so a lot of the grass has the i guess grass heads on them??? But they won't touch that, I thought they would go crazy for it.

Yet they eat the seed my mom put down

:lau

I wonder Why??? LOL Chickens do not like tall grass. Do your own test----go grab the tall grass--pinch you some of it----tough isn't if---hard to pinch of a piece---now pinch off a piece of the blades of kept cut grass---pinches off so easy! You ever heard the saying "old tough bird" meaning the older the chicken gets the tougher its meat gets---"old" grass is the same way. If you went out there and stripped off a hand full of the little grass seed---they Might eat some of it---might not.
