Glad my experience was of some benefit.Old post or not, I'm grateful to have stumbled upon it. Thanks,
@U_Stormcrow for the education! Love the thorough details you always provide.
We had Spanish Needles growing prolifically in the front yard and yes, the needles stick to everything and are impossible to pull off. They got so large and quite honestly, ugly due to their growth pattern, it looked a little messy and unsightly in the front of the house. I don't care about that but my hubby does. Yet another long list of reasons why NOT to live in a city. Ho hum. It took me hours to dig them up. The roots grow incredibly strong and deep and they spread faster than anything else. I guess the song birds are spreading them into the back yard as I find small plants popping up here and there. We immediately yank them out.
Good to know they are edible and have medicinal purposes. I may have to rethink my 'yank it out' strategy.
Thank you all for sharing suggestions, information, what works and what doesn't. FL is the worst soil type I've ever lived on (compared to deep loamy and rocky clay) Love learning here. You rock, BYCers.
and I'm still not encouraging beggarsticks in my pasture (which is what we call Spanish needles), particularly with goats. Edible or not.
