On a separate soap box... if you want to see the US prosper then STOP SHOPPING AT WALMART!!! Their business practices are ruthless and have hurt many domestic companies, while giving lots of business to 3rd world countries with no labor laws and usually almost no trade to the US.

Agreed big-time, especially considering how many of Walmart's employees still need public assistance to get by. Also be aware that Sam's Club is under Walmart -- choose Costco instead. And check out Publix if there's one near you.

:)

Walmart is not at fault in this. Free trade is. Walmart only did what any smart business would do with the laws we have. Almost nothing is made in the USA now an walmart did not cause that.

Um Yes walmart is... When walmart is caught on tape and by many many witnesses telling new employees to apply for public assistance to cope with their low wages... yes they are at fault. Smart business dont tell employees "Your shift ends in 5 minutes, we dont allow overtime but if those 4 shopping carts of clothes arent put away before you leave we will replace you with someone who will." Walmart is a terrible company who extorts their vendors, intentionally underpays employees, and who's business practices should be criminial.

Food for thought... did you know their are more closed walmart buildings in the US then open ones? This is not because the sheeple stopped shopping there. But because Walmart will ONLY stay inside city limits as long as tax breaks that THEY DICTATE are agreed to. I am not Liberal per se but I was glad when the city of Seattle BANNED walmart from opening any stores in the city or suburbs. Walmart kills small business's and prefers you the tax payer support their employees. Kudo's to you walmart shoppers!

I used to like WalMart because they allowed drip investing. Just buy the amount of stock you can afford at the moment. If you buy five shares a pay day, pretty soon you have something. I think that has gone by the wayside.

I did that for years with Chevron. I sold the shares to get money to send my kids to law school.

You need to ask yourself, just who owns a company before you go off on them. A lot of companies are owned by our retirement funds. We sure don't want to cripple them.

Also, just because a company has its headquarters in the US, does not mean that its ownership is in the US.

If a company moves its incorporation abroad, is it still bound to pay US taxes? US citizens have to pay income taxes no matter where in the world they live. If a US citizen renounces their citizenship, every thing they own is considered as income for that year. The IRS skins them. Would that hold true for corporations? I suspect there are ways around that.

All standard practices of companies all over the US. Try your hand working at Amazon. An walmart store placement has nothing to do with tax breaks. Its all about sales numbers. They do rake in a lot of taxes so are offered a lot to build places. Walmart fought hard to build in this county even tough no tax breaks were offered..Lots of anti walmart people talked the county in to banning them even though that was illegal. Walmart just got land across the line(also no tax breaks) an now the businesses of the people that had walmart banned are going under an the rest of us are dealing with a budget shortage cause of the loss of sales taxes. The town across the line is now booming from all the business walmart brought in.

Walmart does not make the rules, they dont even try to fight them, they just know how to play the game that is given to them

You know the government pays them to hire the disabled to right. They hire them an the government pays part of their paycheck... I am sure they should turn down that free money though..

I worked at walmart back around Y2K. I did quit cause I didnt make enough for the commute I had. They did pay ok though an I started out above minimum wage, got discounts, stock an they made sure I took my breaks an lunch or they would pay be double for that time.. They also have a list of people wanting those jobs that is a mile long so they must pay enough for the job. Supply an demand.

Working at walmart is not rocket science. They have no reason to pay any more than it takes to keep the job filled. Want a real job that pays you well an you cant easily be replaced? Get a skill companies are willing to pay for.

They did that when I work there an I think still do. That has made a lot of long time employees very wealthy. At this point walmart is almost completely owned by current an former employees....

You are incorrect sir. Stop drinking the kool-aid

Additionally in places where walmart is banned like say... Seattle. Are cities listed as BEST places to start a business. Coincidence? I think not.

I have been in meeting with walmart an our county. They didnt ask for anything. They picked where they wanted to be an were refused so they went elsewhere an made that town very wealthy.
I have worked for them an I have been one of there competitors.
I have seen all sides of the issue. Walmart has one job an that is to make its stockholders money. They play well within the rules given by the government. Sure they have chosen one location over another worth the same sales just cause one town gave the a break but expected profit is what they are looking at.

Have some facts an I well happily debate them with you but if you want to throw insults, you need to find a new forum.

An what to any town banning them have anything to do with tax breaks. If they are not in a town cause they are banned then you know a tax break did not pull them away.

There are 4 referances to back up what I said. You have provided conjecture and opinion. I am not sure how suggesting you were incorrect in your statement was insulting. My understanding was this was to discussion of viewpoints. I have seen no insults, only opinions on the matter and corrections all around. The "kool-aid" remark was general term for believing what one hears and not checking up on the facts. If you will provide proof other then conjecture and taking your word for it then I can retract my previous statement. However it wasnt an insult, its meant to encourage you to open your mind to other viewpoints.
