Great Depression of 2016

Again Dennis, the law of unintended consequences has taken its toll. FATCA which was passed in 2010 requires banks all over the world to report all transactions by US citizens and green card holders to the US government. These reports must be in English only. This is an expensive and onerous chore.

So, it seems some banks will not be accepting accounts or checks from US banks. It is just not worth it.

Again, it seems that the tail wants to wag the dog. Read the law; it is unbelievable, especially the thirty per cent withholding requirement.

Well Dennis, I didn't hear him say it, but it seems like someone did. Like I said, let's see what happens.

In the mean time, the Russians will just have to pluck their own chickens.
"Moscow might be forced to drop the dollar as a reserve currency and refuse to pay off loans to U.S. banks." This wasn't said by Putin, so please get the facts right.

So they would default on their loans from U.S. banks, and not use dollars anymore ! Do you really think that would give other countries confidence to loan Russia money ? Don't you think that would have more of an effect of lowing the value of the Ruble

You have to remember that this was said by a person that isn't even part of the government ! Do we take as gospel everything that someone says that the U.S. should do ?

Quote: I would call a senior adviser "part of the government"...

As I understand it, Sergei Glazyev is who actually said it..

Quote: Quote: Yep, sounds like government.

Not really. An aid isn't part of the government. When the CEO of GE was appointed head of the Presidents jobs committee, he wasn't a part of the government.

"The same day President Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian media that Glazyev's comments did not reflect the official position of the Russian government."

The President's Jobs Committee was a private presidential council; coordinating the work of federal agencies in developing the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia is part of government. He is essentially in charge of finishing up the integration of various state economies taxes and tariffs.

If that's what you think.
The point is what he said isn't the Russians policies, and isn't going to happen. Sorry but the Russians can't hurt the dollar even a little without crushing their own currency !
