great egg layers

I bought 5 GSL's I hope they lay 300 eggs a yr. From my previous flock, my Ameracaunas laid the best. I had 2 and I usually had 2 easter eggs everyday. I loved their pea combs and their beautiful color.

I have three golden comets and three tetratints. They have been laying two weeks now. I get five eggs a day now (many times I'll have six). I once had seven eggs in one day (followed by three eggs the next day). But even through the heat wave last week they didn't slow down. I also got mine at TSC. My eggs are all brown, some are a rich darker brown, some are more of a tan. They all taste good!

Just so you are aware, a red sex link rooster bred to a red sex link hen does not make red sex link chicks. You will get chicks of various colors (not sexable by color) and they may or may not lay as well as the parent stock.

ETA: Here is a link to the sex link thread. It explains how sex linking works in depth and has a lot of really good information for anyone who is interested in breeding sex linked chickens.

but was told 300+ a year.

Didn't know there was a difference between red star sex links and red sex links. Mine are great layers in comparison to their size and the amount they eat. This year I bought some BSLs and am only hoping they are just as consistant. Keep in mind a chicken will only lay so many eggs. Those that lay everyday will run out long before those that miss an occasional day. So I guess it depends what your looking for in a layer. I'd like to know what you decide on.
