great hatch, then tragedy

this morning i woke up to 18 babies in the incubator. these are from Shellyd2008. i just checked twenty minutes ago and 28 babies were all gasping for air i think. the temps had jumped up to 107 degrees. i placed them in the brooder and gave them all water. right now they look very listless and not how they usually are, like running and jumping all over the eggs. Has anyone had a similar experience and what can i do to help? Many thanks

How awful!! You say you did move them to the brooder? Just be sure that the brooder temps aren't too warm. I haven't ever had mine jump up that high, so I really don't know. But since they just hatched today, they won't be as active as they normally are. Maybe they'll pull through

But on a lighter note, what a great hatch!! I sent you 24 eggs right?

It could just be that they're wiped out, coturnix chicks don't seem all that active their first day.

The hatching process will screw with humidity and temperature, that why i drop the temp to 99 or even 98 because when the chicks hatch, whether its chickens or quail, the temp seems to rise a bit, but up to 107 degrees is pretty drastic.

actually 18 are yours (shellyd2008) and ten are mine with 10 still in incubator. i used a outside fan and vents are open but i have little hope for those in the incubator. Since my last post the babies seem slightly more active. i was able to drop the temps in the brooder because i had it already going at 99.0. its now about 89. i think i will keep it there for about a hour then slowly raise temps it everything looks good. incidentally its 94 today in sunny northern California.

Yes the vents are out. thanks Cawooduck. well i have calmed down quite a bit just by posting instead observing incubator and brooder. my children are also giving reports as I key. The naturals seem to be reviving so i guess there is hope.

Hi..I hatched 31 this past week..when I moved the first ones to the brooder , the temp spiked not 107 but mine were listless appeared dead..ai took them up and spent an hour just dipping their beaks in sugar water..it took 4-5 hours but they are fine..I had only 5 that I overheated..mine were also shelleyd's and monarcs..hope yours make it!!!

thank you for all of help and concern I stayed up all night checking the babies. it seemed by one oclock that they were no longer stressed. this morning i had another surprised. all the babies survived. i heard sounds from the incubator. i could not believe it. apparently i had left the incubator on and it dropped temperature. i had one more hatch during the night. i had a miracle baby. what a experience!!!
