Great-horned Owl Fun in 2015

Owl came back yet again and got carcass out from under cloths basket. Carcass also drug a couple of feet in the process. This will be elaborated on later. Tonight I will try to see how owl gets carcass out. Camera nightshot mode needs to work.

I was wondering if that might happen.
Bittersweet situation, loss of birds stinks but great opportunity for observing owls behaviors.

Loss of birds done for 2015. Hammer is coming down to make certain all owl activities will not be profitable.

Have you thought about installing the motion activated lights that flash at the animal? Those might deter the owl if the flashlight scared it off...

Oh...they worked for me, but perhaps our predators are more easily deterred. I mean, if the flashlight works, why not give them a try? You can get them quite inexpensive...

IIRC I thought at one point you were considering trying those flashing red 'eye' lights?

Definitely have a good testing scenario...but I imagine that you are tired of screwing around.

This morning after I left for work around 0430, something came in and stole the carcass. Feathers where largely removed with trail ending in open area roughly 20 north of kill sight. Then trail ends. I think owl packed off by air but almost certainly flew down hill which was possible for several hundred yards if track took into direction the owls often seem to come from. I stayed out for 3 hours tonight hiding in barn with light. Owl never came back. That would be consistent with owl taking carcass and having enough food for a couple nights at least


Despite many layers of clothing I got cold. I also feel asleep for most of that time. I may have snored which might have kept owl away.

Owl working pens containing young birds yet again this morning. A few minutes ago I applied deer netting to those pens. During process adult birds gave alarm, I looked up and owl was 50 feet away in a tree, Might light was on the whole time.
