great.(NOT REALLY)

ok so today was going swell up until tonight.
about 7pm, it starting to get dark out. my husband is outside in front of our house with his younger brother trying to work on one of his cars. My husband is talking with this guy in a suit/tie deal with a broechur.
i thought at first my husband knew the guy, but body language told me otherwise.
so i go outside. the first thing i tell the guy "we are not interested"
then the guy says back "oh it looks like your queen of the castles here"
omg. thoughts running thru my head.
we are out in the county. where is this guys car? he is trying to sell magazine subscriptions?
my husband says "do you want me to call your ride"
the guy says ok , then trys to find the number?

so then i say again "really we are all set"
the guy continues to talk and ramble something and walks down to the end of the street and waits for his "ride to show up"

i go back in the house and call 911.

get this guy out of town, out of my street.
my husband said he appeared to be and i quote "chasing the joint"!! great! omg

now 2 cops show up and talk with the guy.. i hear words being said down the street.
they ended up picking the guy up.
the cops arrived within minutes.

so the cops drive by our house, stop and talk with my husband. the cops said they were taking the guy in for illigeal loitering.
now i am scared for house and of course us!! will this guy leave us bit. or what?

apparently from what the cop told my husband they (magzine conartists) have been selling the subscriptions but they are bogus and take the money from people.

the guy clearly did not belong in my neighboorhood.
but now i am scared, what i have done. the guys probably mad. but i feel atleast the cops showed up real quick.

whats your all take on this?

I think you did the right thing. I would have done the same except I would have had my shotgun in my hand. But then again, it is just me and my daughter so I answer the door with my shotgun anyway. Yeah, we live in the country as well and I have had several people stop here and try to scam me. Just keep a watch out for this jerk and make sure your doors and windows are locked when you leave your house, but if he is determined to break in, he will find a way. Sorry, I know that doesn't reassure you, but even the best alarm system will not keep a determined robber out. I hope you and your family stay safe. Good luck.


btw...I would have punched his lights out for the "queen of the castle" remark.

It's been happening at our neck of the woods too. Nice weather brings out the scammers, no matter where you live.

I chased a lady with "free" barbeque tongs off my porch yesterday - yep - cause nothing good is going to come from people with free barbeque tongs - explain that to a 7 year old.


I think you did the right thing - once they've been spotted they'll move on to an area where the word's not out.

I made a post similiar to this yesterday. My 3 y/o had a birthday party, when some strange man walked up, my hubby and his best bud (a cop) walked up to him, said , "what are you doing here?"

He said, " I"m getting my car, my white car."
and proceed to climb into this white car that was running.
what my husband did not know was that I was signing for pizza and it was the pizza womans car.
He almost took it!
So they questioned him he didn't know where he was or where he was from. my nieghbor came up and told us about the group home down the street. anyway very intresting.
