Great pyr

Something must be wrong with mine. I love her, but the lady I got her from was not impressed with her.
She said she only barked twice in the 9 months she had her.
She's barked once since she's been here, which has been about a month now.
She gets along with all the critters, but doesn't want to protect them unless she absolutely has to. She's not gonna stand there all day and keep watch though.
She loves the sofa...and the people...and the snuggles.

xD
I've been known to be a spud now and then...so I don't mind if my pups are.
I'm just glad she's here and not somewhere being unappreciated for the things she does have to offer.

Thanks for making us feel less defective!

I'd like a purebred LGD as our next dog (we got really lucky with Cash being a mix)--but I'm not sure I'd go Anatolian again since we have a newborn daughter now...

Cash (our current dog) is 6 years old and I've noticed he's slowed down quite a bit and doesn't hear things as well anymore.

I like the looks of the Anatolian, their coat and that they don't seem to bark needlessly. Cash will run down, bowl over, attack and kill coyotes. Most of the Pyr's I've ever met just bark and bark and bark. And BARK!

Which might work in some parts of the country but around here--our coyotes just stare at the dogs (or you) and keep trying to break into the coops! They recently killed a neighbor's 10yr old Golden Retriever (60lbs).

My pups (anatolians) are 5 months old now and they are beginning to be GREAT watch dogs!! They have not yet learned what I consider important and what I don't (my neighbor getting home at 4:00 is NOT important but they don't know that) but they don't bark endlessly. They let me know they heard something, I always check it out and tell them they are good dogs and to be quiet...and that's the last I hear from them about that issue. I am so glad I chose Anatolians! And they are so darn cute too. lol!

My question is will a great Pyrenees be happy in a yard? Do they try and get out if it is too small? I have 5 children still at home and my mom has 21 grand kids that come over often. Are they good with children?

I think a Pyr would be a big mistake

I'm just curious as to why you think it's a BIG mistake? Is it because of the small yard, or the kids?

We don't have a small yard. It is a little over 3/4 acre. Just not country land.
