Great Pyrenees Puppies

Everybody keeps telling me I need to get an LGD for my property & flock. Gosh, your puppies are really cute! I've got an elderly mini-dachshund and a 4 year old doxie, both neutered males. Ya think I could add a GP to the household and it would work? My flock consists of lotsa chickens, some ducks and a pair of geese on two-thirds of an acre. I know these are the best LGD breed..... The next door neighbor has a golden Lab, a mutt mix and a chihuaha, the last of which sometimes "visits" - would they be in danger if they are just visiting and not going after the flock???

I would think if you added a Great Pyrenees to your group that the doxies would be the bosses. I had a mini dachshund and he thought he was the biggest dog around. My little guy lived to be 18 years old.

Our Pyrenees really are great with small animals like the cats and the poultry which do free range where the dogs are. When our adults were youngsters, they had to be taught not to pounce on the cats while playing and we had to make our female stop picking up her favorite hen and carrying her around in her mouth. The hen was not hurt and seemed not to mind but we didn't want to take any chance that an accident would happen. We have started to let the puppies out of their enclosure for supervised periods. They were already used to all the birds wondering past the enclosure and the cats coming into the enclosure.

I believe if the puppy knows that the chihuaha is allowed to visit and is introduced when the puppy is small that there would be no problem, however I am not sure what would happen if the chihuaha would decide to go after a bird.

I think I would go with a female LGD if you decided to add one just because you already have the two male doxies. The females generally are 100-120 pounds when full grown. Our male is around 150 pounds maybe a little more. He is a big boy.

Just PM me if you would like further information or a phone number to discuss the puppies.

Just thought I would mention that we have people in California, Washington State, and Oregon looking at the puppies. It is possible for two puppies to air travel together I believe up to a certain age and weight which I will check into. If this can be arranged then the cost of the travel could be split between two families thus quite a savings. If anyone is those areas have an interest, please PM me and we will see what we can work out.

Also if there is anyone interested in the puppies that are within driving distance, we would like to talk to you because it may be possible to set up someone along your route that may want a puppy and would be willing to pay you to transport a puppy for them.

Update: I have a lady in Arizona that is wanting two puppies and she is going to drive up. She is willing to transport additional puppies for a fee to help with her gas and meals. PM me if there is anyone along that route that may be interested in a puppy.

Go ahead and get one Linda, you KNOW you want one. Then you can start a thread for her and we can read about her adventures.

Good luck with your puppies. They are so much fun, however lots of work since they are little pooping machines.

We have 2 females and 2 males remaining for this litter.
