Great question, us newbies should understand

I remembered reading that to show a roo who is the dominant one, you should tuck them under your arm with their head facing backwards and walk around that way with them for a short time. I've used that and it seems to have worked. I only have one small Silkie roo now but I had a Barred Rock roo and I have not had a problem with either one of them. The silkie, although he is small, he is very protective of his silkie girl and will try to take a peck at my hand when I try to pick her up. I used the method above and he really thinks about it now. I always make sure I hold them alot so they know that I WILL pick them up when I want to whether they like it or not. I often hold them and give them treats. So far, so good. I have only had chickens for less than a year now but with the help you get on BYC forums, you can learn so much so quickly!

My rooster Stinky was doing the wing dance to the little game cockerel when it escaped from its pen. He dragged his wing in an incomplete circle around the young rooster who was soo scared. It flew back to its coop after that.

None of my Roos are mean...I can walk among them and all they expect is treats. Unless I try to catch Mr. Roo's hens, none even bother.
So I'm no help...

This has been very helpful as i just discovered my light brahma "Elsie " is actually "Eli " been suspect for a while, but the crow just gave him away, so far so good on behavior but it's great to know what to look for!
