Hi All,
I have 8 girls in our family and i seem to be going through a large bag of food week? is this normal. I have 1 girl "Blanche" who runs to eat anything and everything to the point I now sit when its feed time to ensure a the other girls get something to eat too, I have to carry her out the way to ensure all get a good choice and not just left overs...........
thanks in advance

What breed(s) are they?

Hello!:welcome Glad you came to join us!!!! Is she bottom in the pecking order maybe? Does she eat more since the others might pick on her? My delaware is at the very bottom of the pecking order and she eats more since she is usually getting chased around by the other nine. It may not be that though, it could be the type of feed they are eating. What kind of feed is it?

I think she is defo one of the top of the pecking order she is very bossy and barges through all the others - I feed them daily with bits from the fridge so they get scraps of lettuce pumpkin, broccoli, spinach etc etc and they get a handful of mealworms a week - bagged food is Barastoc Darling Downes layer - they are semi free range too in larged fenced area

She is also the first to take all the sunflower seeds from the food !!!! So I am now handfeeding the others some so they get a share saying this she is my only consistent layer lol but I don't want the others to miss out and I want them laying too.

Depending on their age/breed, a 25 pound bag of feed should last about a week and a half. Larger breeds and pullets just starting to lay will consume more than a typical dual-purpose sized adult hen. Feeding sporadically can lead to gorging behaviors. Feed should be available all day long.

This doesn't sound like complete nutrition at all...and is probably the reason the hens stopped laying. Get some real chicken feed and stop feeding all scraps.
Really the rural local shop and chook experts put me on the Barastoic darling downs feed it is a complete chook feed did you miss reading this in my post ? the scraps are afternoon tea!
