Hello all,
Two days ago one of my 3 baby bantam roos got hurt in the chicken pen (4x8 feet for 9 chicks). I have no way of telling because I did not see, but I think there was a fight. They are about 8 weeks old and have been play fighting. I observed the chickens for a while and could not find any hostile behavior toward him. No one was pecking, harassing, or chasing. He had a bad limp but seemed alert and calm. I thought maybe this was an intense pecking order fight.
After checking out the wounds (2 or 3 superficial looking puncture marks) I put triple antibiotic ointment on him. Since no one was harassing him and he was still moving, eating, etc and it was chick bedtime I kept him with the flock for the night. The next day he had a separate plan pen, but seemed lethargic. Today he only had a tiny limp, was moving around fine, and was being his cute perky self.
However, I looked at his leg and the skin is blueish green around the wounds on his leg. This skin color does not match his other leg. Does this mean that his wound is infected? He is now in his own enclosure with a clean towel, food, water.
Does someone know anything about this?
